This summer, we were absolutely spoiled when we were asked to capture Melissa and Ali’s traditional Persian wedding at the incredible Kimpton Fitzroy Hotel in London’s Russell Square.

Melissa’s meticulous planning of the day meant that we were invited up to capture morning preparations right on cue. The bridal suite was a busy one with the bride-to-be, her mum, bridal party, 2 videographers and 2 photographers all in one room, but in amongst the chaos, Melissa remained cool and calm…something that remained throughout the entire wedding day.
About half way through the bridal prep, we went across to capture Ali’s groom prep with his 2 brothers, and the usual struggle with button holes; to this day, I don’t think we have met a single groom who has been able to put one on!
Prior to the ceremony itself, Melissa had organised a surprise meeting with her groom-to-be, and what a beautiful and emotional moment this was! This was an incredibly intimate moment where the couple could be alone together, before their 180 guests joined.
The ceremony was held in the hotel’s grand room which was decorated traditionally for the service. The moment the rings had been presented and the honey had been exchanged, the guests immediately rose to join the couple in celebration and dance. These celebrations went on for a good few hours of the afternoon, with guests stepping outside every now and then for a bit of air…this was the hottest day of the year after all!
The evening saw more celebrations with traditional dances interspersed between food courses. Speeches took place in front of all 180 guests, so must have been incredibly nerve wracking, but nobody missed a beat.
The stunningly extravagant cake was cut just before a very well choreographed and rehearsed first dance, and celebrations continued into the night.
