On a Thursday morning in May, myself and David made our way to St Luke's Church in Ramsgate to capture Luke and Kelly's special day. It was a day of tears (good ones), joy and love - we were delighted to be a small part of it.
We don't photograph in many churches anymore, so when we do, it's amazing to use the scale, architecture and light to create some stunning images. As it was a religious ceremony there was time for readings, hymns and messages which set up the day perfectly. There was also a balcony which allowed David to get perfect panoramic views of the church - win win!
After using the church as a beautiful backdrop for group shots, the wedding party convoyed to the Pegwell Bay Hotel where the party could officially start. But before that, we whisked the happy couple away for some portraits. Using the outside pagoda and coastal views, we worked with Luke and Kelly to create some lovely photos. Kelly paid us a great compliment saying how much she was enjoying being photographed. This being a very nice surprise as she was very anxious about this before the big day!
Onto the speeches. As you can imagine, myself and David see a lot of these. Some incredible and some....well not so incredible but these were excellent. They weren't the longest, the weren't the funniest, however they were incredibly heart felt and genuine which is - in my opinion - the most important thing for a speech. These speeches further cemented the amazing atmosphere of during the day.
Shooting certain weddings, you feel like you're documenting something special. It's an intangible thing in the air, an energy and an atmosphere that flows throughout. I don't think there is a magic formula. However, Luke and Kelly are such nice people and make an incredible couple, so it stands to reason that that the day followed suit. It certainly did!
Myself and David wish Luke and Kelly the absolute best for their future together. We are certain that they will share a life full of love and joy - and it couldn't happen to two nicer people.
